Acidity is something that almost all of us have faced, at some point of time. Though it is not a very serious issue, it may get irritating and could also get serious if the acidity is severe or prolonged. There could be many causes for acidity, such as:

  • Skipping meals

  • Eating right before going to bed
  • Long gaps between meals
  • Overeating

Foods to avoid:

There are certain foods that aggravate acidity and hence should be avoided if you have acidity or are prone to it.

Such foods are:

Fried and fatty foods:

Fried as well as fatty foods is a common acidity trigger. Intake of such foods puts you at a greater risk of acid reflux. Hence, avoid eating all kinds of fried and fatty foods.

Citrusy fruits or vegetables:

Being acidic in nature, citrusy foods and vegetables will worsen your acidity.  Thus, avoid eating oranges, lemons, tomatoes, pineapple and other foods that are citrusy.

Caffeine:

Caffeine is also known to increase the acid reflux in your body.

Foods to eat:

There are also certain foods that help in relieving acidity. Such foods can be chosen when you feel that you have acidity.

These foods include:

Oatmeal:

Oatmeal is very filling and it does not cause acid reflux.

Fennel:

Fennel is great for treating acid reflux. Just pop a few fennel seeds into your mouth the next time you feel acidity.

Ginger:

Ginger, having anti-inflammatory properties, is good for treating acid reflux.

Non-citrus fruits:

Fruits that are not citrus are also great for treating acidity. These include apples, banana, and melons.

Lean meats:

Lean meats such as chicken, fish and other seafood may also help you with acidity.

Apart from food,

-Make sure you eat at proper timings.

-Get enough sleep.
